Ever
since the earthquake in Mexico City, September 19, 1985, I dislike TV
news.
Recent events made me watch again the news and that is when I started
developing this project.
“Allergy” is a series of photographs about the times we
live in; using the TV news channel in the background and counter positioning
it with flowers in order to create interesting compositions between
opposite things.
Photographed with a very shallow depth of field, the information on
the TV gets blurred…just as the information we really recieve;
just as the way I feel… is this really happening? For the viewer
it will take time to realize what’s happening in the background…
is that really whom I think it is?
The sharpness of the flower gives the viewer a point of focus, taking
him away from the chaos, letting him get concentrated in the sharpness
and beauty of life.
The title of the series came to me during the process of photographing,
when I discovered that I’m not only allergic to TV news but also
to the flowers.
